As the current administration seeks to have a more active sport programme in schools, teachers of Region Three were the beneficiaries of a three-day cricket coaching workshop, which concluded on Thursday last.

Organised by the Ministry of Education’s Department of Sport and the National Sports Commission, the course was conducted by coach Latchman Yadram, with assistance from sport organisers Lester Griffith and Marlon Whitney, at the West Demerara Secondary School.

The sessions attracted male and female teachers from 16 schools between Wales and Crane, and the teachers were exposed to the basics of cricket coaching. According to Yadram, the course sought to give a start in the foundation of coaching, and teachers were exposed to both theoretical and practical sessions.

Yadram urged the teachers to coach, organise and manage session in a discipline manner for the development of cricket along West Demerara. The teachers welcomed the initiative and said the course was very informative.

They expressed gratitude to Yadram, the Ministry of Education and the National Sports Commission for seeing the need to invest in such a programme.
