Parika murder suspect shot and arrested

Ganesh Dhanraj, the man who reportedly strangled his reputed wife, 29-year-old Dhanwantie Ram, on Wednesday (April 05, 2017), has been arrested by the police.

The News Room learnt that Dhanraj was arrested at the home of a male friend where he sought refuge after committing the crime. The friend resides just a few houses away from where Dhanraj lived with his reputed wife and three children at Parika Façade, East Bank Essequibo.

Police sources have indicated to the News Room that ranks received information of the man’s whereabouts and at 02.00hrs this morning (Sunday, April 09, 2017), they surrounded the house in an effort to capture him.

The man, however, made a dash for freedom, but a round was discharged by a police rank, and the suspect was shot in the right arm.

He was treated at a hospital and discharged. He is now in police custody, and the charges are likely to be laid shortly.

The man who has been knowingly harbouring a fugitive is also in the custody of the police and will be charged accordingly.

Dhanwantie Ram has been living with Ganesh Dhanraj for the past twelve years during which she was subjected to constant abuse, something the entire village was aware of.

Recently, she and the man got into an argument and she opted to leave the relationship and to make a report to the police against the man.

However, on Wednesday while she was attempting to make her way to the police station, a statement from the police said Ram was intercepted by the suspect on her way to the Police station and forced to return home.

It was while at their home that she was strangled and left in a chair by her reputed husband who covered her with a sheet and fled the scene.
