Parika man charged with murder of reputed wife

Ganesh Dhanraj was today (Tuesday, April 11, 2017), charged with the murder of his reputed wife 29-year-old Dhanwantie Ram, which occurred on Wednesday (April 05, 2017) at their Parika Façade, East Bank Essequibo home.

Dhanraj appeared before Magistrate, Rochelle Liverpool at the Leonora Magistrate Court where he was not required to plead to the charge.

The News Room previously reported that the man allegedly strangled his wife with a bed sheet after she attempted to leave the relationship.

After committing the crime on April 05, the 28-year-old went into hiding. However, he was arrested at around 02.00hrs on Sunday morning (April 09, 2017) at the home of a male friend where he sought refuge. The friend resides just a few houses away from where Ganesh lived with his reputed wife and three children at Parika Façade.

Police sources have indicated to the News Room that ranks received information of the man’s whereabouts and surrounded the house in an effort to capture him. The man, however, made a dash for freedom, but a round was discharged by a police rank, and the suspect was shot in the right arm.

He was treated at a hospital and discharged.

The man who has been knowingly harbouring a fugitive was also taken into custody.

Dhanraj is scheduled to return to Court on June 05, 2017.
