US$364,727 contract awarded for Diamond overhead pedestrian crossing

The contract for the fourth pedestrian crossing has been awarded to S. Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction Services.

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon at a post-Cabinet briefing yesterday (Thursday, April 20, 2017), announced that the sum of US$364,727 was awarded to for work on the Diamond overhead pedestrian crossing. Works are expected to commence shortly.

Previously, a contract valuing US$1,034,326 was awarded to B & J Civil Works for the construction of overhead crossings at Houston, Eccles and Peters Hall on the East Bank of Demerara.

The overhead crossings are expected to decrease the number of fatal road accidents in the country. They will also be equipped with features which will enable the elderly and persons with disabilities to have equal access.

These works will be guided under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s, Works Services Group. This group is charged with the responsibility for the execution of all foreign and nationally funded infrastructural projects.
