Just a few weeks after the Annual General Meeting and elections of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), elected Treasurer Niall Stanton resigned from his post. Information reaching News Room Sport indicates that Stanton officially resigned on February 15, citing personal reasons for removing himself from the Executive Committee of the association.

However, sources close to Stanton and the AAG have indicated that the resignation is more than what it seems on the surface.

Stanton is part of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) created to put logistics in place for the upcoming South American Junior Championships on June 3-4 at the Leonora Synthetic Track and Field facility.

News Room Sport was reliably informed that the AAG was trying to keep Stanton’s resignation under wraps, so as to give the impression all is well within the association. With Elton Bollers being elected as Assistant Treasurer at the January elections, it is likely that the former 200m specialist will now take up the mantle as Treasurer.
