The Ministry of Education’s Department of Sport (MOE/DOS) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) continued their cricket coaching workshop recently with teachers from West Demerara benefitting.

Drawn from Crane to Parika, the three-day programme, conducted by NSC Coach Latchman Yadram, attracted 16 male and female teachers at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground.

The teachers were exposed to both theoretical and practical sessions. Topics discussed during the workshop were the basics of batting, bowling and fielding, session planning, role of coaches, objectives of a good coach, various ways of dismissing a batsman, umpiring signals and fielding positions.

Yadram said the workshop was a major success, as all the teachers left better equipped to administer the basic form of coaching to their students. He noted that all the participants were receptive to the course and he is confident their energy and enthusiasm will rub off on the students.
