Four remanded for robberies in West Demerara

Today (Monday, May 08, 2017), Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool remanded four men to prison for crimes they committed jointly in West Demerara at the weekend.

Leon Williams 24, Jermaine Bailey, 23 and Campton Semple, 30 have been remanded until June 05, 2017.

The court heard that Bailey of 272 Lamaha Park, Georgetown, Semple of 375 D Field Sophia, East Coast Demerara and Leon Williams of 139 Vryheids Lust, East Coast Demerara were all involved in robbery under arms.

They are accused of robbing Roshnie Gaundra and Sheela Puran at Cornelia Ida West Coast Demerara of a quantity of articles valued $323,000 and $120,000 respectively. The men pleaded not guilty to the charges. At their next court appearance, the prosecutor is expected to provide the court with a report and the matter will also be fixed for trial.

Additionally, Bailey was also charged along with Orwell Softly, 25 years of Anna Catherina West Coast Demerara for three counts of robbery under arms.

The two were accused of robbing Neshan Khan, Anthony Bashir and Shameeran Rahim all of Anna Catherina of a quantity of articles valued $25,000, $283,000 and $40,000 respectively. The men pleaded not guilty and they are also expected to have their next court appearance in relation to this matter on June 05, 2017.

The charges for Bailey were not finished there as before the same magistrate; he was required to answer another charge. This time, the charge was read against him for being in possession of a firearm without being licensed to carry same.

For that offence, Magistrate Liverpool remanded the man to prison. That matter will again be called on May 29, 2017, in the Wales Magistrate’s Court. When the man was found in possession of that weapon, he was in the Wales magisterial district.
