Pensioner confesses to stabbing reputed wife

A 64-year-old man has confessed to stabbing his reputed wife to her abdomen, leading to her death on Monday (May 08, 2017).

Commander of ‘B’ Division, Ian Amsterdam has confirmed that the man, Rishie Lakhraj confessed to the crime on Wednesday.

55-year-old Chandmonie Charlie, Lakhraj’s reputed wife died from a stab wound she sustained at the weekend at her Crabwood Creek home.

News Room understands that the suspect told ranks that he and the deceased had a misunderstanding during which he grabbed a knife and dealt the woman a single stab wound to her abdomen.

Lakhraj was arrested after the woman’s lifeless body was found in their home at on Monday.

News Room previously reported that at about 10:00 hours on Monday, Charlie’s Husband Dhanraj Ramnauth reported to the Springlands Police Station that he received information suggesting that his wife was stabbed to death by her reputed husband Lakhraj at their home.

According to a police source, Charlie and her reputed husband have been living together for about 15 years and that she would usually consume alcohol. It is alleged that on Friday (May 05, 2017), the couple had a heated argument during which the woman was injured. She ran to a neighbour and related that she stabbed herself, however, refused to visit a doctor. The neighbour Tamini Lakhraj recalled that the now dead woman had told her that she was fed up with her reputed husband and that she decided to stab herself.

It was following intense questioning that the reputed husband confessed to killing the woman.

Investigations are ongoing.
