A 62-year-old Brazilian National was on Monday robbed of an undisclosed sum of raw gold at Blackwater Backdam, Cuyuni River.
News Room was told that the man who is also the General Manager (GM) of Manuel Mining which is located at the Blackwater Backdam, Cuyuni River, had just finished “washing down” his sluice box and had the gold in a bucket when the suspects attacked.
Enquiries disclosed that the man and his other workers were at the location when three men emerged from the bushes, two armed with handguns and one with a knife. The suspects stuck them up and relieved them of the raw gold.
They then made good their escape but not before discharging a round into the air.
The incident occurred at about 09:00 hrs.
Investigation is in progress.
