Iron- beating spouse remanded to prison

A fisherman has been remanded to prison when he appeared in the #51 Magistrate’s Court for beating his girlfriend with an iron bar and causing her death two days later.

A 27 year old man, Adesh Mulloo of Lot 38 Section B #58 Village on the Corentyne, today (Friday, June 02, 2017) appeared at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court for causing the death of his 37 year old spouse last week.

He was not required to plead to charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Charlyn Artiga in a packed courtroom.

The court heard that on May 25, Mulloo inflicted injuries on Gomattie Ramsingh at their home, causing her death on Friday (May 26, 2017).

News Room understands that on the day in question, the woman and her boyfriend got into a heated argument after she had disposed a quantity of narcotics he had purchased earlier that day.

It is alleged that he became annoyed and armed himself with an iron bar with which he struck the woman about her body and dragged her down the stairs to retrieve the drugs.

The niece of the deceased woman, Selena Kumar had told the News Room that on May 26, 2017, she received a call from the Skeldon Public Hospital that her aunt was a patient there. She related that when she arrived at the health institution she saw her aunt lying helplessly on a bed being prepared to be transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where it was discovered that she had suffered a fractured spine.

She was later rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she died.

After hearing the case, the magistrate refused bail and the accused was ordered to return to court on June 30, 2017.
