Linden pedestrian killed by speeding car

A 38 – year old man is now dead after he was struck down by a speeding car as he was crossing the Half Mile Public Road in Wismar, Linden around 22:45hrs last night (June 13, 2017).

The deceased has been identified as Sherwin Hermanstein of Lot 534 Canvas City, Wismar.

Police say its investigation has revealed that motorcar PSS 5865 driven by an Industrial Area, McKenzie resident was proceeding north along the western carriageway of the road, allegedly at a fast rate when it collided with the pedestrian who was attempting to cross the road from west to east.

As a result of the impact, the pedestrian fell onto the road surface. He was picked up and rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex by the said driver in an unconscious state, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is presently at the said Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination on Friday June 16, 2017.

The driver, who was tested and found to be above the legal blood alcohol limit, is in custody assisting with the investigation.
