Murder accused killed, brother injured in Prison brawl

A brawl at the New Amsterdam Prison this afternoon (Wednesday, June 21, 2017) has left one person dead and his brother injured.

According to information reaching the News Room, Neshan Jagmohan and Ramnarine Jagmohan who are on remand for murder, were attacked by three other male prisoners at about 15:00hrs on Wednesday.

The suspects were armed with improvised weapons which they used to inflict several stab wounds on the men who were returning from Court.

The men were rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

Neshan died while receiving treatment, and his brother, Ramnarine remains a patient at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital in a serious condition.

Officials are trying to ascertain what may be the reason for the fight between the two gangs.

The Jagmohan brothers were on trial for the murder of businessman Devindra Deodat, on October 7, 2013.

Deodat, the owner of Cool Runnings Trucking Service, was shot and chopped to death by masked men who had stormed his grocery. The bandits also chopped Deodat’s wife in the head and shot her father, Rafeek Abdul, in the left arm.
