Email on Coalition’s plan to ensure re-election in 2020 “is fake”- Basil Williams

Two emails were today (Tuesday, June 20, 2017), circulated to several media entities and other persons purported to have been sent by Minister of Legal Affairs and Chair of the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNC/R) Basil Williams to other members of his party. The emails outlined plans the party has to see its re-election at the 2020 General and Regional Elections.

However, Williams who was at Cabinet on Tuesday noted that “Email in circulation is not mine.”

On Tuesday evening, a statement was released from the Attorney General Chambers which stated that Williams “has rejected out of hand the fake email being circulated whilst he was in Cabinet, purporting to have been authored by him.”

The Attorney General says that the email is another wicked and desperate attempt by the Opposition People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) to deflect from the recent exposure of its failure in the National Assembly.

AG said that from his investigations the email address purporting to be his was recently created. There is an uppercase ‘B’ in the fake email. However, his email was created with a lowercase ‘b’ for ‘basil.’

“Furthermore the fake email’s inbox revealed four (4), while AG’s email inbox has around one thousand (1000),” the statement added.

The first email addressed to Winston Felix who is the current Minister of Immigration and Citizenship, states “Assure them, boys, that the third term ruling thing not going nowhere. Cummings will slow it down here and some of our people talking to Judges.”

The second email addressed to Joseph Harmon, Amna Ally, Winston Felix and Raphael Trotman state that the Re-Election Committee (REEC) met on April 27, 2017, and outlined several measures which will be taken to ensure good results for the party at the next General and Regional Elections.

The AG Chambers pointed out that Mr. Raphael Trotman is not a member of the Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR). Trotman is currently the Leader of the Alliance For Change (AFC).

Among the list is the “temporary” reversal of the budget tax measures and relaxation of the Curfew, the hosting of entertainment shows with international artistes to motivate the younger voting population, and continue “propagandising on the issue of having inherited an empty treasury.”

The “fake email” also urged that the party’s members prod on its “favourable media houses and social media operatives” to fuel the perception that the Opposition is racist. It was further stated that the AFC would get new faces to work in Indian and Amerindian Communities while a youth party will be formed.

The AG office says “Efforts are being made to verify in whose name it (the email) is registered.”
