Inmate discharged from hospital; Drugs, other improvised weapon found at prison

Following a brawl at the New Amsterdam Prison on Wednesday (June 21, 2017) which resulted in the death of 27 year old Neshan Jagmohan and injuries to his brother, the police along with members of the Guyana Prison Service conducted a raid at the penitentiary.

The raid was conducted yesterday (Saturday, June 24, 2017), during which a quantity of drugs, improvised weapons and other prohibited items were recovered.

According to a prison official, during the search they recovered 39 zip lock bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana, 5 metal spoons, three improvised weapons, 2 sim cards, 2 cell phone batteries, 2 pairs of headphones, 9 smoking utensils, 3 adapters, 1 pair of scissors, 19 razor blades, 22 nails, a quantity of wire, 4 cigarettes and 2 mirrors.

Neshan Jagmohan and his brother Ramnarine Jagmohan were both on remand for murder.

The brothers were attacked on Wednesday while they were returning from Court.

Improvised weapons used to inflict stab wounds on the two men on June 21, 2017

News Room previously reported that at the prison, the brothers had in their possession an improvised weapon which they intended to sell to Delroy Frazer to murder 25-year-old Dellon Boucher of Haslington, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D).

However, Boucher got wind of the plot and was under the impression that the Jagmohan brothers were a part of the plot. Therefore, he along with two other inmates; 23-year-old Ramchand Latchman of #71 Village Corentyne, Berbice, and 24-year-old Rooplall Ibrahim of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice (W.C.B) attacked the men.

Neshan sustained ten stab wounds about his body and succumbed at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, while Ramnarine was stabbed to his right side and was admitted a patient at the Health Institution.

He has since been discharged.

The attackers are presently in solitary confinement while assisting the police with their investigations.
