GFSCA to be represented at NYSCL Independence/Legends Cup Softball

For the 10th consecutive year, the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) will be sending two softball teams to the New York Softball Cricket League (NYSCL) Independence/Legends Cup Softball tournament. The tournament will be held this weekend (June 30 to July 2) at the Canarsie Park in Brooklyn, with the finals set for Roy Wilkinson Park in Queens.

“The two teams are Floodlights and Floodlights Legends. Most players have already travelled to New York and the few remaining here will go early in this week,” the GFSCA said in a release.

Floodlights are the reigning champion for this year’s inaugural Orlando Premier League, played in March in Orlando ,Florida. They were champions at Florida Cup in March 2016 in Fort Lauderdale. Floodlights were also champions at the Legends Cup in July 2015 in New York, but were piped out in July 2016 by local rivals Regal Masters.   

This weekend they are confident of regaining softball supremacy over all their rivals in the New York Legends Cup, where 12 teams from around USA, Canada and Guyana will be competing.

The Independence Cup will also feature 12 teams in the Open Category. Both tournaments will be played simultaneously. Ricky Deonarain will captain Floodlights and Dharam Persaud Floodlights Legends. Hubern Evans will perform coaching duties for both teams.

The two teams will come from Uniss Mohamed Yousuf, Ramo Malone, Ramesh Narine Deonarine, Lloyd Ruplall, Wayne Jones, Kamraj Sumair, Robert Mohan, Mahesh Lutchman, Tulshi Lutchman, Vishawnauth Lutchman, Anil Beharry, Goordial Mattai, Ricky Deonarain, Jagdish Persaud, Dharam Persaud, Lakhram Singh, Gopaul Boj-Raj, Jailall Doedass, Vivakenand Ramsaywack, Nadir Baksh, Mohan Sukhu, Richard Persaud, Surendra Nauth, Armogan Gopaul, Unos Baksh, Teekchand Madho and Ramchand Ragbeer.
