Pork-knocker shot after attempting to attack policemen with chopper

A pork-knocker, conveying a quantity of cannabis and in his bid of not being arrest, attempted to attack two armed policemen with a chopper and was shot once in the process.

The incident occurred about 16:45hrs yesterday (June 25, 2017) at the Omai Landing.

The pork-knocker has been identified as 27-year old Glenn McCardy of Half Mile Wismar, Linden.

He underwent surgery at the Mackenzie Public Hospital and is presently admitted in a stable condition under guard.

Investigation revealed that two policemen armed with a service weapon each and performing duties at the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) Omai location in Region Seven, were at the Omai Landing when they confronted the suspect whom they received information was in possession of narcotics, in a bulky haversack he was carrying.

It was alleged by the ranks that the pork-knocker upon being approached, quickly drew a chopper from out of his haversack and menacingly charged towards them, resulting in him being shot once in the left lower abdomen; he was subsequently disarmed and a search revealed a quantity of dried cannabis in his haversack.

The pork-knocker was rushed to the hospital by one of the ranks. The exhibits have been lodged.

A probe into the incident has since been launched.
