59 year old pedal cyclist dies following accident

A 59-year-old man of Lot 7 Line Path, Skeldon, was this morning (Tuesday, June 27, 2017) killed after he was struck by a motor lorry.

According to information received, the man, Yatandeo Hiralall was proceeding north along the western side of the Skeldon Public Road on his pedal cycle, when Motor Lorry # GKK 7698 proceeding in the same direction collided with the rear of the cycle.

According to sources, the driver of the lorry, 76-year-old Mohaber Ganga of 16 Rampoor, Corentyne, related to police that he was about to pass the pedal cyclist when the left front of the lorry collided with the cycle.

As a result, the pedal cyclist fell onto the road surface. He was picked up in a semi-conscious condition and taken to Skeldon Hospital where he died at about 11:00 hours.

The incident occurred at about 07:30 hours.

Ganga was arrested and is presently in custody at Springlands Police Station.

A Breathalyzer test was conducted and he was found to be 0% micrograms.
