Guyana’s Daniel Williams put on a skin-crawling 400m run to win Guyana’s second World medal with silver at the World Youth Championship being held in Nairobi, Kenya, on Friday.

Williams, who, according to sources, mentioned to his coach at the event he was hoping for lane two, got just that and did the Golden Arrow Head proud with a personal best run of 46.72s. Antonio Watson of Jamaica won the event with a time of 46.59s.

Interestingly, Williams had the ninth fastest time and would not have been in the final if Antonio Grant of Panama was not disqualified for lane infringement. Williams, therefore, was the eight fastest qualifier for the final and shocked everyone with a sensational run for the silver medal.

Williams now joins Kadecia Baird, who won a World Junior silver medal in 2012, as the only two athletes to gain a World medal at any level for Guyana.
