A 47 year old man is now dead after he was knocked down by an intoxicated driver this morning.
Dead is Chandrapaul Persaud of Lot 53 Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
Police said the are investigating the fatal accident which occurred around 3am.
Investigation revealed from the driver, who was driving Motorcar PVV 1923, that he was proceeding north along the western carriageway of the road when the pedestrian who was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road, suddenly ran across the road into the path of his vehicle but because of the short distance, the vehicle collided with him.
Persaud was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre by public spirited citizens where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver who was tested and found to be above the legal blood alcohol limit, is in custody assisting with the investigation.
