GBA concludes Badminton holiday camp
The Guyana Badminton Association’s (GBA) Badminton holiday camp 2017, which was made possible through the Ministry of Education’s Allied Arts Unit, concluded on Friday (July 21) at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The camp was conducted by Certified Tutor/Coach and national senior player, Narayan Ramdhani, who is home on holiday from his five-year scholarship programme in Vancouver, Canada, where he is training at the Shuttlesport Badminton Academy and pursuing his Degree at Douglas College.
The two-week camp, which started on July 10, saw the participants learning basic badminton skills, fitness and warming up and down exercises. It concluded with a competitive mini tournament.
The mini tournament saw Domitre Rankin defeating Shamar Bruce 21-19 to win the final. Third place went to Angelie Balram and Amelia Balram took fourth. Ramdhani awarded a racquet each to the winner and runner-up.
“The GBA is extremely happy to have this camp done as it brings out players from all parts of the country. We hope to make it a very big one next year. Special thanks goes out to Mr. Nicholas Fraser (of Allied Arts unit), Mr. Errol Nelson of Banks DIH for refreshments; the National Sports Commission for the use of the Gymnasium and the Tutor/Coach Narayan Ramdhani for conducting the camp,” the GBA said in a release.
