CPL: Taylor, Mohammed, Primus star in first warm-up

Steven Taylor and Jason Mohammed made fifties and Roshan Primus was among the wickets on Sunday night when the Guyana Amazon Warriors played their first warm-up game at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, ahead of the Hero CPL, set to start this weekend.

The match was won by the Select XI, who were up against the Guyana Amazon Warrior. SCORES: Select XI 129-9 from 20 overs; Guyana Amazon Warriors 117-6 from 20 overs.

Batting first, the Select XI were led by Taylor’s 60 off 46 balls. The left-handed opener struck three fours and two sixes in his knock, which was supported by Babar Azam’s run-a-ball 26, which included four fours.

Right-arm medium pacer Primus was the pick of the bowlers with 3-31, while Pakistan’s left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir bagged 2-25.

Guyana Amazon Warriors fell short by 12 runs, despite a 45-ball 51 from Mohammed. The in-form right-hander counted three fours and a six in his knock. Fellow Trinidadian Steven Katwaroo chipped in with 28 (43 balls; 2x4s).

Bowling for the Select XI, Muhammed Ali-Khan took 2-26, while Rashid Khan (1-13), Rayad Emrit (1-19) and Keon Joseph (1-25) were also among the wickets. All four bowlers completed their quota of four overs. 

Meanwhile, the Warriors will play their second warm-up game today (Monday) at the same venue starting at 13:30h against a Guyana XI. 

Guyana XI reads: Leon Johnson (c), Robin Bacchus, Rajendra Chandrika, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Tevin Imlach, Sherfane Rutherford, Anthony Bramble, Anthony Adams, Gudakesh Motie, Romario Shepherd, Paul Wintz and Eon Hooper.
