Bandits attack GPL’s office

The brazing daylight robbery occurred at approximately 13:15hrs at GPL’s outlet located on the second floor of the Mon Repos Mall on the East Coast of Demerara.

News Room understands that three men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, entered the office and pretended to be customers. One of the suspects requested to use the washroom, while the other went into a bag, whipped out a gun, and placed it at the head of the security guard, who is attached to GPL.

The gunman relieved him of his .38 revolver and six matching rounds. The security guard has been identified as Radihal Gurdath of Haslington, East Coast Demerara.

The victims were ordered to lie on the ground and were tied up with plastic cuffs. A 40-year-old clothes vendor, who was paying a bill, was robbed of $37,000. According to reports, as the suspects attempted to break into the cashier area, an alarmed was raised by passersby which caused the suspects to flee the building and discharged two rounds in the air before escaping in a silver grey allion, license plate number, HC 6216 .  No one was injured.

News Room understands that there are no working CCTV cameras in the building, however investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from other cameras around the area. Eyewitnesses say that several calls to the BV police station went unanswered.

This is the second robbery to occur at the mall in just eight days. On August 2nd, bandits invaded the E-Networks office, where they carted off several items, inclusive of a Digital Video Recorder (DVR).
