An accident on the Houston, East Bank Demerara Public Road on Thursday morning, has resulted in the death of 69-year-old Chitraykha Sankar.
The mother of seven was crossing the road at approximately 7:00hrs when she was struck down by a Canter Truck, which was heading in the direction of Georgetown.
According to the woman’s relatives, the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene while many other persons refused to lend assistance to take the woman for medical attention.
Sankar of Lot 60 Houston died on the spot. Her body is at the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
The driver was subsequently taken into police custody.
