Update: Murder/suicide rocks Berbice

The police in Berbice are investigating the murder of popular Berbice businesswoman Rhonda Blair, who was found dead at her Cumberland Village, Canje home on Friday morning.

She died from suspected stab wounds. Her husband, Rudy Blair, who is the suspect, was subsequently found dead by the police in a clump of bushes at the back of the house.

Relatives of the man believes that he consumed a poisonous substance after stabbing the woman. However, the Guyana Police Force disclosed that the man’s body was found with two suspected gunshot wounds to the left ear and left side chest. His  licensed .32 pistol with six live rounds and one spent shell were also found next to his body.

The businesswoman was the owner of “Stretch D Dollar” grocery store in the community. News Room was reliably informed that the woman’s best friend visited the police station to file a missing person’s report, since she did not hear from her.

The police accompanied the friend to the house and found the woman lying motionless in a pool of blood at about 00:05 hrs. The woman’s body bore two stab wounds, one to the left side breast and the other to the right side neck.

The suspect, who was armed, fired a round in the air, to prevent the police from arresting him. News Room understands that relatives begged him to surrender but he refused.

The bodies are at the New Amsterdam Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
