A 13-year-old New Amsterdam, Berbice girl was reportedly raped on two occasions, allegedly by a relative.
News Room understands that the incidents occurred between June 01 and July 04, 2017; however it was only reported to the police on August 14, 2017.
News Room understands that the victim resides on the lower flat of the home while the 28-year-old suspect lives in the upper flat of the building.
According to information received, during June 2017, the teen’s father asked her to take care of her grandmother, who also lives in the upper flat. However, one afternoon while tending to her ill grandmother, the teen was attacked by the man, who allegedly pulled her into a vacant bedroom and told her that he was in love with her.
The News Room was told that the following evening, after the teen had finished taking care of her grandmother, she was once again confronted by the suspect who pulled her into a bedroom and had sex with her against her will.
The teenager’s horrid story came to light on Saturday, August 12 when her mother noticed that her [the teen] feet were swollen and took her to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. It was while there that the mother was curious as to whether the teen was a virgin.
Following an examination, the doctor informed the mother that her daughter was not a virgin and this prompted her to question the teen during which she disclosed that on numerous occasions, the relative had sex with her. The young lady reportedly said that the last time the rape took place was on July 04, 2017.
A report was made to the Central Police Station and the victim was escorted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where she was examined by a doctor on duty who confirmed that she was raped. However the suspect has not yet been arrested and investigations are ongoing.
