A 25 – year old Sophia resident who was wanted by the police for questioning in relation to several incidents of carjacking was today arrested.
The man was arrested early this morning at Dennis Street, Sophia for stealing a motorcar on July 28 in Canal No. 1. West Demerara.
Police ranks on foot patrol, at around 1:00h, spotted the suspect who upon noticing the lawmen, bolted on foot but the ranks pursued and apprehended him some distance away.
The man has since admitted to the crime, according to a police statement.
Police explained that the stolen vehicle was actually recovered on August 11 in D Field, Sophia whilst in the possession of the suspect who managed to escape authorities amid attempts to apprehend him.
Police also revealed that the suspect is wanted for questioning in respect of several reports of carjacking on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).
