Diamond teen knifed to death under mysterious circumstances

The family of the Diamond, East Bank Demerara teenager knifed to death just after midnight Sunday are calling for the Police to act swiftly and bring those responsible for his death to justice.

The actual circumstances surrounding the death of Ricardo Singh, who would have celebrated his 16th birthday this week are unclear.

Singh’s mother Elaine told the News Room that her son left their Diamond home on his bicycle Sunday morning to go by his friends in the neighbourhood. From there, he reportedly left with them for a wedding at Soesdyke, also on the East Bank of Demerara.

When he did not return home by evening, Mrs Singh said she tried contacting her son several times, but there was no response to his cellular phone.

Police said the teen was discovered with a suspected stab wound to the abdomen some 15 minutes after midnight Sunday.

He was rushed to the East Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. But the Police failed to inform the family.

While the Police are holding two persons for questioning, some of the boy’s friends from the neighbourhood returned home.

It was till about 10: 30 hrs Monday morning that one of them visited Singh’s house to tell his mother that he was dead.

Mrs Singh said she has received various accounts of what transpired and when it did.

There are accounts that some of the boys were engaged in a fight and during the scuffle the teen was stabbed to his abdomen.

Mrs Singh said she was also told by one of the boys that they were robbed, and it was when they were attacked that her son was stabbed.

Mrs Singh said she is not sure what to believe but wants the truth and for those who killed her son to face the full force of the law.

The young Singh was a student of the Diamond Secondary School and would have entered Form Five when the new school year begins in two months

The Police investigations continue.
