Diamond Well erupts again

The recently recapped well at Sixth Street Diamond New Housing Scheme has erupted again.

Just a few hours ago, it was spewing gas and other particles.

Mitchell Prince, a senior Petroleum Technologist at the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), told News Room that he is unsure what triggered the eruption.

The orifice was initially sand filled then pipes were installed as a channel for the natural gas to flow.

The hole was then capped with cement and a valve was left opened for the gas to escape.

News Room understands that the concrete remains intact and that the debris is being released in the air from the valve.

Nearby houses are said to have suffered further damages.

Prince has developed several contraptions across the country to treat with natural gas explosions.

The one done at this well, however, is slightly different from the others he has developed.

News Room will provide more details as it becomes available.
