One dead, 7 Chinese Nationals hospitalised with suspected dengue fever

Doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital are conducting tests on seven Chinese nationals who were rushed to the facility from Mathews Ridge, Region One after they complained of high fever, skin rashes and shortness of breath among other symptoms.

The men are employees of Guyana Manganese Inc., a subsidiary of BOSAI Group of companies.

An official from the company confirmed that one of the men who fell ill earlier in the week has died.

While reports are that the men contracted Dengue Fever, the official said he prefers to await the test results.

The State newspaper reported that the men were contracted as labourers to clean a tunnel earlier in the week where they were exposed to mosquito bites and unsanitary conditions.
