Festival City father of two shot dead in home invasion

An early morning shooting and robbery has left a Festival City, North Ruimvedlt, Georgetown man dead.

Dead is 53-year-old Darrell Breedy, a father of two, who was shot in the abdomen at his Lot 2037, Hummingbird Street house by masked bandits at around 03:00hrs Saturday.

In addition to being a popular tout outside the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, Breedy was also a construction worker.

The News Room understands that the bandits gained entry to the two-storey house through a window at the bottom right side of the house.

The bandits carted off with a television set and GY$11,000. Breedy was shot after he put up a fight with the two armed bandits.

Breedy lived with his wife, Yonette who is currently on vacation in the United States, his two children ages 18 and 23, and his mother-in-law.

The mother-in-law, Marva King was still visibly shaken when the News Room visited the scene.

The bandits gained entry to the two-storey house through a window at the bottom right side of the house.

She said she was asleep upstairs and was awoken by screams from her granddaughter.

“I was sleeping and then I hear the daughter screaming and crying, so I come down –oh my God, his head and the blood all over, right now I shaky bad,” the elderly woman told the News Room.

According to Breeddy’s 23-year-old son, Keiron King his father was a very quiet person and usually kept to himself.

“I went upstairs and I hear the gunshot and my little sister run downstairs and say, ‘Daddy just get shoot’ and when I come downstairs I see he lying down in [pool] of blood,” King said.

The man’s daughter remains in a state of shock. Police are investigating.
