Corentyne family desperately searching for young mother missing since Sunday

A 27-year-old mother of one left her home in No. 36 Village, Corentyne Berbice to visit a mandir on Sunday afternoon, October 27, and has not been seen or heard from since.

According to relatives, Hemwattie Singh called ‘Mona’ left home sometime between 16:30hrs and 17:00hrs; she is the mother of a five-year-old boy.

Her sister, Teena Ramsew told the News Room that Singh is a religious singer and would usually take part in the Diwali celebrations, so they did not worry too much when she did not return home at the usual time.

Singh is a single mother and lives with her parents but the family do not know which mandir Singh visited.

“She does normally come home, Sunday night we wait and mommy call all she friends them the other day and went and look and didn’t find she, so daddy say if she ain’t come home in 24 hours…then we gonna make a report,” the sister said.

A missing person’s report was filed at the No.51 Village Police Station.

Singh was last seen wearing a red sari; she had a black purse and a song book. The family has been out every day since searching for her.

The sister noted that they came as far as Mahaica on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the missing woman and her husband are currently going through a divorce but according to the sister, they have a good relationship and share custody of their child.
