Over 12 persons arrested during seven-hour raid at Kuru Kururu

Thirteen persons were arrested during a raid at Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway on Wednesday and a number of items believed to be stolen, were seized.

The police said the raid was conducted by 21 ranks of the Kuru Kururu Station district between 04:15hrs and 11:25hrs.

Several items suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained were seized at various locations including one motorcycle, five generators, two weeding machines, a number of mechanical tools, a number of car doors and other parts, one minibus shell and a 192 motor car shell.

The police said persons have begun to identify some of the articles as theirs and several confessions have been obtained from suspects as to their criminal involvement into the items /articles found.

The police said based on information received further raids will be conducted.

In February last year, the police were able to make a dent in a carjacking ring following a 10-hour operation at Kuru Kururu. During that raid, two motorcars, suspected to be stolen were recovered along with a canter truck which is registered to a Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown resident, loaded with a shell of silver Toyota Spacio and a quantity of vehicle parts, suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

Six persons were arrested who were reportedly employed by an ex-policeman.

The ex-police officer and another man were subsequently charged with a spate of armed robberies and carjacking committed around Georgetown.
