Two parents, their female relative and a Grade One teacher of the St Agnes Primary School appeared before Chief Magistrate (ag) Sherdel Iscaas-Marcus Monday charged with assault and breach of peace.

The charge against the teacher Tiffany Hinds alleged that on January 15, 2020, at the St Agnes school she assaulted Soyini Gardner and caused a breach of peace.

The teacher pleaded not guilty and was released on a total of $20,000 bail.

The charge against Sherwin Dalrymple alleged that he assaulted Hinds and breached the peace; he too pleaded not guilty and was released on $20,000 bail.

Gardner and her sister-in-law, Candacy Peters were charged separately for assaulting Hinds and maliciously damaging her dress. They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were each released on $50,000 bail each.

Sherwin Dalrymple

The court heard that Dalrymple confronted the teacher at the school about an incident between his son and another student.

It is alleged the Dalrymple was upset that the teacher took his child to a private hospital and told Hinds “You ain’t fit to be a teacher, you should be a market vendor.”

Hinds reportedly responded and said “Like ya woman” which caused Gardner to become annoyed.

Gardner confronted Hinds, which led to a fight. At this point, Peters allegedly joined in and they ripped off the teacher’s dress.

Dalrymple also reportedly kicked and punched Hinds.

The matter is adjourned to February 10, 2020.

The widely circulated video of the teacher being beaten and stripped almost naked surfaced on Facebook this week and the Education Ministry has since launched an investigation.
