Murdered Berbice businessman found with wounds to head, back

The body of a Berbice businessman found in a clump of bushes early Thursday has been identified 49-year-old Lomenzo Johnny, who resided at Lot 11 East Side Line Dam, Rose Hall Town, Region 6 Berbice, where he also operated a grocery shop.

The News Room understands that Johnny’s body was discovered at around 07:45 hrs by a construction worker who turned up for work at the plot of land where he was constructing a building.

The employee found that both of the businessman’s feet were tied with black lace; small wounds were seen on the back, with bruises to his right side back and hands, his head and face appeared swollen and a wound was observed to the right eye.

At the scene, Police found a sweater; red and black sneakers, a pair of scissors, and a piece of wood about three feet in length.

Detectives subsequently discovered that Johnny’s house was ransacked and that a safe which was inside a northeastern bedroom was removed. The door on the southern side of the upper flat was opened.

Police also found a pistol with 28 matching live rounds of ammunition in the house.

Residents reported that it is customary for the businessman to jog in the area after closing his business. He was last seen exercising at around 19:30hrs Wednesday.

Several persons have been held for questioning.
