Fourth COVID-19 patient dies

A 59-year-old man who was among the 19 persons tested positive for the new Coronavirus died Wednesday night at the Diamond Hospital, East Bank Demerara.

The patient has been identified so far as Mr Stoll; he is now Guyana’s fourth victim to have died from the disease.

A doctor, familiar with the case, told the News Room that Mr Stoll was transferred from the Georgetown Public Hospital on Monday night to the Diamond facility where he remained in isolation.

The doctor said that Mr Stoll’s vitals were stable. The Government subsequently confirmed his death in a brief statement and noted that Mr Stoll was a resident of Region Four.

Earlier on Wednesday, Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence confirmed that Guyana’s third victim, Osa Collins, a 78-year-old resident of New Amsterdam who was confirmed to have contracted COVID-19 died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

On Tuesday, Guyana’s second victim, 38-year-old Jermaine Ifill died in the COVID-19 ICU of the GPHC.

As of March 31, Guyana recorded 19 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
