The CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has dispatched a letter to the Chairman of the National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF), Moses Nagamootoo seeking the approval for the departure and landing of a chartered flight to transport the high-level CARICOM team to Guyana for the national recount.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Yolanda Ward disclosed that the letter was sent to the NCTF.

CARICOM is requesting “approval for the departure and landing of a chartered flight from Guyana to collect the team members and return the day. Similar arrangement for their return upon completion of the exercise.”

The Secretary-General has also put arrangements in place for the members of the team to be tested in their respective country, using the World Health Organisation (WHO) approved PCR COVID-19 test.

The CARICOM SG also requested for the WHO-approved PCR COVID-19 to be administered to the team before they depart Guyana.

No arrival date has been determined yet for the CARICOM team which hinges on a date for the recount.

Last Friday, GECOM completed the Order to be gazetted to trigger the national recount. Commissioners said the Commission is awaiting the arrival of the team to start the process which is expected to last 25 days.
