An additional four patients have tested positive for COVID-19 from the Palms Geriatric Home on Brickdam, Georgetown.

Director of Social Services at the Ministry of Social Protection, Wentworth Tanner, confirmed that the other patients were tested positive.

The first confirmed case from the Palms was a 63-year-old man identified as Ramadal (only name given). He became the country’s 10th COVID-19 victim on May 05, 2020.

On Friday May 08, another patient tested positive for COVID-19. The patient is a 68-year-old male with diabetes. He was in the same ward as Mr Ramadal and displayed symptoms of fever prior to being tested.

On Sunday May 10, another patient who suffers from seizure tested positive for the disease.

Two additional cases were recorded at the Palms on Monday May 11. The patients are a male and female who are both over 60 years. The male is also a diabetic patient and the female is blind.

All of the males were in the same ward as the first patient while the female was in another ward. They are being treated at the Palms infirmary.

Since the first confirmed case at the Palms, a number of nurses were sent on home quarantine. They were all tested and the News Room understands that the results came back negative.

One of the nurses on quarantine told the News Room that there were a total of 32 patients who shared the same ward with Mr Ramadal.

The nurses on quarantine have created a social media group where they are communication with each other about any possible symptoms of the deadly virus.

“We are doing our vital signs at home, checking out temperature and taking our Vitamin C,” the nurse said.

A number of nurses from the Palms also protested for the Ministry of Public Health to provide them with sufficient protective gears.
