1,049 ballot boxes counted so far

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Saturday completed the recount of 85 ballot boxes bringing the total number of boxes counted so far to 1.049.

At the end of Day 18, 16 boxes were counted for Region Three, 23 for Region Four, 15 for Region Five, 20 for Region Six and 11 for Region Seven.

Additionally, 999 Statements of Recount were tabulated for the General elections and 1,015 were tabulated for Regional elections.

GECOM is working with twelve recount stations having added two more on Tuesday last to speed up the process. The Commission is seeking advice from the National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF) to add two more stations in an effort to increase the pace of the recount.

The recount commenced on May 6 with a 25-day deadline which comes to an end of May 30; the Commission is yet to decide whether the deadline will be extended and for how long.
