Residents of De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara (WCD) are on a frantic search for an 11-year-old boy identified as Akon Richards who reportedly drowned in a Canal nearby to his home.
According to CCTV footage, he was last seen playing with two other children when he fell into the canal at about 15:00hr. He subsequently went under the water and it is believed that he drowned.
The boy’s family only realised he was missing when his grandmother, who works as a security guard, returned home from work at around 19:00hr.
Residents and the police have been searching the Canal for the past two hours for the child’s body.
