A 34-year-old man was rushed to the New Amsterdam hospital after he was shot in his back during a robbery at a New Amsterdam gas station Tuesday morning.

The injured man has been identified as Shazam Melville of Lot 114 Experiment, West Coast Berbice.

Reports are that at approximately 10:05h Melville, who works at the M. Ali and Son Service Station on Main Road, New Amsterdam, was in the process of handing over his shift when two men on a motorcycle armed with a gun, pounced on him. One pointed a gun at him while demanding he hands over a bag he had in his possession while the other sat on the motorcycle.

The motorcycle used to execute the crime

Another employee, Roney Yadram, who was dealing with a customer recalled seeing the two men on the motorcycle but even after hearing them saying hand over the bag, he thought it was a prank.

“Is when I see the gun I realized is serious. I was approaching the one on the motorcycle when he scrambled the bag from the guy,” Yadram told the News Room.

After injuring Melville and taking the bag, the two quickly sped off on the motorcycle bearing registration number CJ 5411.

The injured man was taken the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he remains a patient. The Police are currently investigating.
