Four students, who attend the Kato Secondary School in Region Eight, but were transferred to President’s College, have tested positive for COVID-19.

Health Officials confirmed to the News Room that the students were immediately taken into isolation at the COVID-19 Hospital at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

The News Room understands that none of the students are showing symptoms.

A total of 12 of 38 students arrived from Kato on Friday last to begin face to face learning after the Ministry of Education was given the greenlight to reopen schools for Grades 10, 11 and 12. These students are preparing to write the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) next year. The students from Kato is the first batch who will be writing exams and as such the Ministry of Education thought it best that the students be taught by experienced exam teachers.

The students were tested on arrival at President’s College at Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara where they are being housed. The results came back on Sunday, showing four positive cases.
