Prisoners dig hole, escape from Lethem police station
Police are on the hunt for four prisoners who escaped from the lockup of the Lethem Police Station in Region Nine by digging a hole in the ground.
Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the escape occurred on Friday between 00:05h and 07:00h.
Those on the run are 36-year-old Jack King Paul of Kwatamang Village North Rupununi; 20-year-old Clarence Rodney of Central Lethem; 26-year-old Venezuelan national, Yon Rogg Hernandez, known as John Robert, of Tabatinga Lethem and 18-year-old Xarlos Edwards Thomas, a Venezuelan national, also of Tabatinga.
At the scene, police found a metal rod measuring one foot and the hole in the ground measuring three feet in width, length and depth and had an exit point.
The surface of the hole has a two-inch layer of concrete with red sand beneath.
