Guyanese table tennis star Chelsea Edghill made a winning start to the Tokyo Olympic Games, comfortably defeating Sally Yee of Fiji 4-1 in the Women’s Singles on Friday evening at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gym in Japan

Edghill, the first-ever Guyanese table tennis player to compete at the Olympic Games, won 11-5, 4-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-8 in a commanding debut performance at the global Games.

What made Edghill’s victory even more significant is the fact Yee was appearing in her second Olympic Games, having competed at Rio 2016. The victory secured Edghill a spot in the Round of 32.

The 23-year-old was the first Guyanese on show at the 2020 Games. Boxer Keevin Allicock is set to go into action next.
