One dead, several injured after speeding cop loses control of car

A 49-year-old woman of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown died after Special Constable Aaron Rodrigues lost control of motorcar PSS 7652 and crashed into an electrical pole along the Mocha Access Road, EBD.

Several others involved in the accident are also injured; dead is Euclin Joseph. The accident occurred on Saturday at about 15:50hrs.

Police Headquarters reported that Rodrigues, 21, of Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown was speeding when he lost control of the car and ended up colliding with a Guyana Power and Light (GPL) post.

The other injured persons have been identified as Raymond Joseph, 39 of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown; Samantha Andrews, 32 of Ogle Street, Triumph, East Coast Demerara and Lashana Young, 32, of Providence.
Police said some of the injured persons were unconscious and were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Euclin was pronounced dead.

A breathalyzer test conducted on the Special Constable found no traces of alcohol. He has since been arrested and is assisting with the investigations.
