Teen falls to death at construction site in Essequibo

Police are investigating the death of 16-year-old Amar Dindyal who fell from the roof of a steel structure under construction at Vilvorden, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Saturday.

The News Room understands that the teenager was employed as a labourer with a private contractor who was executing extension works at a rice mill.

Reports indicate that the child repeatedly told his employer of his phobia for heights.

A relative told the News Room that she received a telephone call from another relative at around 15:00hrs informing her to go to the Suddie Hospital because Dindyal fell and was in a critical condition.

Fifteen minutes later, she received another telephone call that the child succumbed to his injuries.

Relatives remain in shock over the child’s death, noting that he was the eldest.

Dindyal was from a single-parent family and was working to support his mother; he was described as a “disciplined and quiet” person.
