Anna Regina man admits to stabbing wife to death

Davenand Narine on Wednesday admitted to stabbing his reputed wife, Farida Khayum, to death at their Riverstown, Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast home in 2019.

Narine was arraigned before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow at the Essequibo High Court for murder but opted to plead guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.

The man admitted that on May 16, 2019, he unlawfully killed Khayum, 39.

Sentencing is deferred until March 8, 2022; the State was represented by prosecutor Tiffini Lyken.

According to reports, Narine and his reputed wife were in the kitchen area at their home when an argument ensued. It is alleged that Narine armed himself with a knife and stabbed her several times about her body.

The matter was reported to the police and when ranks arrived at the home, the woman was already dead.

Narine was arrested and taken to the Suddie Hospital where he was treated for ingesting poison.
