Two persons are in police custody for allegedly chopping and assaulting a Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice woman on Sunday night.
The incident was brought to light following a video of the incident that went viral on the social media platform Facebook on Tuesday.
Regional Commander Boodnarine Persaud confirmed to the News Room that two persons were arrested and is expected to be charged soon for the brutal attack of Amrita Singh.
The News Room understands that Singh was on her way to a nearby shop to make a purchase when she was attacked.
Based on information provided, Singh has been enduring harassment and torment from the suspects for sometime and she made several reports to the police.
In the video seen by the News Room, Singh was pushing her bicycle through the street while being verbally abused.
Within seconds, a female in a blue shirt grabbed her and lashed her to the head; another female who was armed with a cutlass, chopped Singh to the head, resulting in a gaping wound.
Singh fell to the ground screaming as the attackers hurriedly escaped from the scene.
Several others, armed with cutlasses and large pieces of wood, were also seen in the video.
