A fire on Sunday morning destroyed a wooden house at First Alley, Wismar in Linden, leaving a pensioner and her son homeless.

The News Room understands that the elderly woman, Marvene Brewley, was rescued from the house by neighbours; her son Joel Brewley was not at home at the time of the fire.

However, her 11-year-old great-grandson visited her Sunday morning when he noticed the fire at around 11:30hrs and raised an alarm.

By the time the fire service arrived at the scene, the building was already engulfed in flames and nothing could have been saved.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and anyone willing to help the family rebuild the house of the elderly woman can make contact on telephone number: 442-1156.
