The Guyana Fire Service is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a building at Kwakwani Main Raod, Berbice River in Region Ten on Wednesday.

A press release from the fire service revealed that the flat wooden structure was owned by Inshally Bacchus and was used as the living quarters for his 12 employees who are now homeless.

According to the release, the water tender arrived at the location with water, however, based on the initial assessment made by the firefighters, there was a need for a copious amount of water.

“In such cases, assistance is rendered from an open water source in order to extinguish the fire. One jet working from Water Tender 69 from a nearby open canal extinguished the fire,” the release noted.

The fire service commended the residents for their “swift action which assisted in saving Mr. Bacchus’s home which is located next to the living quarters.”
