A man who brutally murdered his wife and buried her in a shallow grave has confessed to the crime and led detectives to a cattle pasture on the lower Corentyne where he hid her body.

Dead is 52-year-old Waynmattie ‘Dataley’ Permaul, who resided at Lot 33 Block 1 Kilcoy/Chesney, Corentyne, Berbice with her husband.

The husband, identified as 55-year-old Avemanen Permaul known as ‘Terry’ cracked under intense interrogation by the detectives and led ranks to the area at around 02:30hrs on Friday.

Police Commander Boodnarine Persaud told the News Room that the husband was arrested after one of the children reported her missing on Thursday.

The senior cop explained that the woman was last seen alive on April 22 and ranks found it odd that the husband did not report her missing.

“When questioned he reportedly ‘confessed’ to the Police, divulging details of how he committed the heinous act on April 22nd at about 02:00 hrs,” Police Headquarters said in a statement.

The News Room was informed that the woman is the mother of four children including popular cricketer Veerasammy Permaul. Police later clarified it was Permaul who reported his mother missing on April 28.

She and her husband lived alone at the house in Berbice.
